Sailing a vessel is a very old experience. The challenge of man against the sea aboard a classic sailing vessel is very much the same today as in the times of Spanish, Egyptian and Roman sailors who would have experienced the same challenge and adventure aboard a sailing ship a thousand or more years ago.
This connection with the sea, along with simple technology is sailing’s appeal and challenge. A sailing ship represents relatively low technology that has not changed in technique and principle. A well designed hull, strong ropes and sail cloth cut to fill the wind powering the vessel through the water, is an adventure for both man and woman to experience.
